The history of the library
The Villacidro Municipal Library was established in 1965 with its seat in Piazza Municipio. Initially managed by contract librarians, in 1988, following a public competition, the library had its official librarian.
It was later moved to Via Nazionale, to larger and brighter premises, where it began its growth with more books, cultural activities and the establishment of a newspaper and media library.
Today, the library has been moved to the newly renovated premises in Via Regione Sarda, where the spacious and bright rooms house a collection of around 50,000 books and multimedia material (VHS DVD CDs).
Named after Antonio Gramsci, its strengths lie in the centrality of the premises within the village and the decentralisation of the media library section, named 'Fabrizio de Andrè', to Via Parrocchia.
