The history of the library
The Villacidro Municipal Library was established in 1965 and located in Piazza Municipio. Initially managed by librarians under contract, in 1988, following a public competition, the library acquired its official librarian.
It was later moved to Via Nazionale, to larger and brighter premises, where it began to grow with an increased supply of books, cultural activities and the establishment of a newspaper library and a media library.
Today the library has moved to new, renovated premises in Via Regione Sarda, where the large, bright rooms house a collection of approximately 50.000 books and multimedia material (VHS, DVD, CD).
Named after Antonio Gramsci, its strengths lie in the central location of the premises within the town and the decentralization of the Media Library section, called “Fabrizio de Andrè,” on Via Parrocchia.
