The Monte Linas Library System was set up in 1994 by the 18th Mountain Community (now abolished) with the fundamental aim of creating a network of synergies to increase reading and disseminate knowledge.
It currently belongs to the Province of South Sardinia and consists of 11 libraries, of which 7 are municipal libraries (Arbus, Gonnosfanadiga, Pabillonis, Guspini, San Gavino M.le, Sardara, Villacidro), 3 are school libraries (Liceo Classico Piga in Villacidro and Istituto d'Istruzione Superiore Marconi-Lussu in San Gavino M.le) and the specialist library of the Istituto di Scienze Religiose in San Gavino M.le.
In recent years, the system has promoted numerous cultural and socio-educational activities organised for all age groups and has set itself the task of disseminating more and more services and initiatives in the area, actively involving bodies, educational institutions and associations.
Possiede un patrimonio librario e multimediale di ca. 220.000 unità e offre il servizio di prestito intersistemico ai suoi utenti. L’accesso ai servizi è libero, gratuito e si rivolge a tutti.
The System's membership in SBN (Servizio Bibliotecario Nazionale) has allowed the visibility of its catalogue at a national level. The use of the So.Se.Bi Tlm Web management programme and the Librami social network has made libraries more open and accessible, encouraging dialogue between libraries and readers and offering a new and friendlier way of understanding library service.
