The 'Monte Linas' Library System - Province of South Sardinia and Sisar s.a.s. propose, on the
700th anniversary of the death of the great poet, a literary competition reserved for children and
primary and secondary school children from the municipalities participating in the System entitled
"With Dante, from the Dark Forest to Paradise".
Dear children, this year marks the 700th anniversary of the death of the greatest poet of
ever, Dante Alighieri, the author of one of the most extraordinary, most widely read and studied books in the world, the Divine
Comedy.
In this work Dante tells of getting lost in a dark wood where he comes across three hungry beasts
and ferocious beasts, a loon, a wolf and a lion, and from which he cannot get out. Just when, in the grip of
prey to fear, he loses hope, another poet, Virgil, comes to his aid, informing him that
to save himself he would have to make a long journey through Hell, Purgatory and
Paradise. In Inferno Dante encounters monsters, demons, ferocious beasts and frightening creatures and talks to
many damned souls who occupy nine circles where they will remain for eternity. These souls, who in life
have behaved very badly and have never repented, are condemned to terrible punishment, amidst
mud, fire and ice. For them there is no way out. Having passed through Inferno Dante must
pass through Purgatory where the souls of those who have committed less serious sins
and have repented. These have the hope of reaching Paradise but must first reflect
on their mistakes and become pure in order to deserve Paradise where the pure and blessed souls are to be found.
blessed souls who, surrounded by so much light and splendour, are happy in the vision of God.
It is an extraordinary journey that Dante undertakes and the competition proposes to play a little
by trying to imagine, after having discussed the subject in class with your teachers, and putting in
all the imagination, irony and wit of which you are capable, in which of the three canticas (Inferno, Purgatory or
Paradise) Dante would have placed you and why. If you want, you can also find a destination for
your best friend or whoever you want!
Courage, we are waiting, as always, for your fantastic entries and beautiful drawings!

Children between the ages of 6 and 13 can participate individually or in school classes

Expires on 12 February 2022
